Warner Robins Reacts to Furlough Reductions
WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The city of Warner Robins is making one thing clear, they’re ready to step up and help out if times get tough.
After U.S. Defense officials announced the reduction of mandatory, unpaid, furlough days on Monday, civilian employees are breathing a sigh of relief.
Warner Robins residents who live near the base say the news means local business owners will see more dollars spent in their stores.
Since furloughs have been in effect, efforts to help the workers in the community are endless.
From discounted meals to help with stress.
Chrissy Miner, Chief of Operations and Communications at 21st Century Partnership, says furloughed employees are going to watch their spending closely.
“I think that they’re going to be more guarded in the future because again with the uncertainty going forward going into the next fiscal year,” Miner said. “Now we know that this is a possibility that this has happened.”
21st Century Partnership is hosting S.H.A.R.E., an event where middle Georgians have the opportunity to get information from local banks, utility providers, and health services if they’re going through tough times.
Miner says the community is coming together to make sure everyone gets back on their feet.
“I think that they’re going to be more guarded in the future because again with the uncertainty going forward going into the next fiscal year….now we know that this is a possibility that this has happened,” Miner said.
S.H.A.R.E. is not just for furloughed employees, but also for middle Georgians who are seeking guidance with finances, health, and counseling.
The event is August 9, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Courtyard Marriott in Warner Robins.
