Witness: Fight Led to Fatal Shooting in Village Green

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A 35-year-old Lizella man was shot dead in the Village Green community and a witness says a fight led to the fatal shootout.

Steve Demond Johnson was found lying the in the doorway of a home at 5761 Frederica Place shortly after 2:00 a.m. Sunday. According to Bibb County coroner Leon Jones, he was shot multiple times.

41NBC talked with Lechelle Moore, one of the only eyewitnesses, who said Johnson was visiting the home when a fight broke out. Moore described the victim as her good friend and father of her son. Moore’s grandfather passed earlier this week and said Johnson stopped by to pay his condolences. He died at the foot of her mother’s door.

“I can’t get that vision out of my mind,” she said, “to see him like that, he didn’t deserve that.”

She wouldn’t say who else was involved in the incident. According to Macon Police Department’s spokesperson Jami Gaudet, a suspect has been identified, but there’s word of any arrests.
