Macon Animal Rescue Group Burglarized

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Macon animal rescue group is picking up the pieces after burglars broke in and stole cleaning supplies.

Volunteers at Macon Purrs ‘n Paws made the discovery on Saturday morning at the location on Rocky Creek Road. Director Anne Brennaman told police it appears the thieves came in through the back of the building and pried the door open. Brennaman said they stole an estimated $500 in cleaning supplies and caused another $100 in damage to the property.

“We’re just going to sort of regroup and start over and try to understand it,” Brennaman said, “I just don’t understand who breaks into an animal shelter, the only thing I can do is thank them for not hurting our animals.”

The stolen items were donated to the shelter and Brennaman said she’s now worried about where she will find the money to replace them and fix the door. Macom Purrs ‘n Paws is currently at risk of losing its lease due to a faulty ventilation system and a foul smell at the building.
