Jones County Man Pleads Guilty to 2008 Murder

Tyrone RichardsonGRAY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Jones County man pleaded guilty to murder for duct taping an elderly man in a chair and leaving him to die almost five years ago.

Jones County District Attorney Fred Bright tells 41NBC 25-year-old Tyrone Richardson (pictured top) pleaded guilty to murder, armed robbery, false imprisonment, and burglary Monday morning in court.

Richardson and the co-defendant in the case, Terrence Burney (pictured bottom), are accused of breaking into 76-year-old Joseph Kitchens’ home off Hungerford Road in Bradley back in October 2008. Bright says Kitchens walked in on the burglary. Richardson and Burney then duct taped Kitchens to a chair and left him there, Bright said.

Terrence BurneyDays later, a family member called the Jones County Sheriff’s Office and asked deputies to conduct a welfare check on Kitchens. Deputies found the elderly man dead and tied up to the chair.

Richardson is facing life in prison for the murder charge, 20 years for armed robbery, 10 years for false imprisonment, and 20 years for burglary—all to run at the same time. Bright says he is eligible for parole after serving 30 years in jail.

Bright adds he will be calling Richardson as a witness for the state during Burney’s trial. He expects Richardson to testify fully and truthfully against the co-defendant.
