Christmas came early on Tuesday for hundreds of families in Middle Georgia because of the Salvation Army.

Tuesday, was the first of three days set aside to give 2500 families their Christmas Food Box and Toys.

More than 200 volunteers will be on site to hand out the assistance to the approved families. According to the Salvation Army, the need for assistance this holiday season is up by 30%.

The need for donations has also grown so much that two days are now set aside just for families in Bibb County to collect their gifts. The Salvation Army usually has only one day set aside for Bibb County residents.

The Salvation Army is also spreading Christmas cheer to senior citizens at selected retirement homes.
