UPDATE: Injured Firefighter Recovering from Surgery

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Macon-Bibb firefighter is recovering from surgery after he was hit by a car while clearing an accident.

According to the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department’s Facebook page,

Surgery is over. Still critical but stable. Stopped bleeding now the next 72 hours are very critical so continue to pray. Watching for swelling in brain etc.

The accident happened on I-75 southbound near Sardis Church Road. Bibb County sheriff’s deputies say 18-year-old Nayef Shroof of Warner Robins was driving the car that hit firefighter Eric John and almost struck a deputy on the scene as well.

Lt. Sean DeFoe says the whole incident is under investigation. No word on whether charges will be filed.
