NAACP Macon President: Zimmerman Verdict Setback for Nation
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The president of Macon’s NAACP Chapter said tonight, she and other members of the group are disatisfied with the Florida jury’s decison to acquit George Zimmerman.
Over the phone, Gwenette Westbrook, said she felt like members of the jury did not convict Zimmerman for shooting and killing 17-year-old Trayvon Martin based on their interpretation of Florida’s ‘Stand Your Ground’ law.
“For him to just walk away and not being charged with anything is just a setback for our nation,” said Westbrook.
Westbrook says the group is planning to do something in response to the verdict.
