Lake Tobesofkee Fireworks Still On For Now, Band Canceled

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Lake Tobesofkee’s 4th of July celebration will go on for now.

Recreation director Doug Furney says the fireworks are still set for 9:30, but the live entertainment that was supposed to start at 6, New Skrews Band, has been canceled.

Furney says the rain doesn’t mix well with the band’s sound equipment, and officials worried about the public’s safety.

A few families are hanging out at Arrowhead, Claystone and Sandy Beach Parks Thursday afternoon, but the crowd is much smaller than in years’ past because of the rain.

“This is supposedly our busiest day of the year,” says Furney.  “The weather is just not cooperating, but we do intend to go ahead and shoot the fireworks at 9:30.”

It’s $3 to get in for anyone over 7 and it’s free for kids 6 and under.   Stay with 41NBC and 41NBC.com for updates.
