Actress Victoria Rowell Visits Macon to Encourage Foster Parenting

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Daytime diva and Emmy-nominated actress Victoria Rowell visited Macon to encourage mentoring and foster parenting.

While many people know her as the former Young and the Restless star, Rowell is an activist for education and a product of foster care. On Sunday, she held a book signing at New Fellowship Baptist Church sharing powerful stories about her upbringing.

“I’m one of six children, all of different paternity, my mother had no prenatal care, she did not have the support of her family,” Rowell said, “My experience is certainly the cornerstone of my strength. I attempt to bring a message of hope.”

She writes in detail about her passion for foster parenting in her New York Times bestseller “The Women Who Raised Me.”

“The people, my audience, have come out to support me as an author,” Rowell said about the book.

The longtime actress made her way to Macon after meeting Tom Hudson, Bibb County School Board member, at an education caucus.

“She was just so inspiring,” Hudson said, “I wanted other people to hear her story.”

Rowell is visiting as a guest of Central Georgia Partnership for Individual and Community Development for “Rekindling the Conversation on Community and Our Children.” On Monday, she will attend a Foster Parent Luncheon at 1 p.m. at the Bibb County Welcome Center and at 7 p.m., she will lead a round table community discussion at the Buck Melton Center.

41NBC’s Jasmine Williams asked the actress, if this was the end of her acting career and the beginning of her career as an author. Her response: “certainly not.”

“I am not returning to the Young and the Restless,” Rowell said, “the audience has uplifted me to start my own show, its call the Rich and the Ruthless.”
