New Safety Warning on 15 Passenger Vans

Putting too many people into a 15 passenger van increases the chance the vehicle will flip.

Georgia’s Office of Highway Safety teamed up with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (N.H.S.T.A.) urging drivers of these large vans to be extra careful while driving.

This first-of-its-kind vehicle safety warning comes out just as thousands of Georgians are preparing to hit the road for the holidays.

Middle Georgia has many shuttle services which use these 15 passenger vans to get people to and from the Atlanta Airport.

The problem comes when 10 or more people are in these vans. The N.H.S.T.A. says the added weight to the vehicle causes its center of gravity to get too high, which can lead to the vehicle rolling over.

This shift in weight leads to causing nearly three times more accidents for these vans.

The warning also urges drivers of these vans to not load any items on the roof of the vehicle, as this creates an even larger shift of the vehicle’s center of gravity.
