Hawks Take PG Schroeder With 17th Pick In Draft

ATLANTA (AP) – The Hawks have selected point guard Dennis Schroeder of Germany with the 17th overall pick in the NBA draft.

It’s unclear if Atlanta will try to re-sign Jeff Teague, the incumbent starting point guard who’s a restricted free agent.

Atlanta was potentially considering a center or a shooting guard or forward with its first pick before selecting the 6-foot-1, 180-pound Schroeder, who seems to have impressed Hawks general manager Danny Ferry at a Nike camp in April.

The Hawks, a possible longshot candidate to sign Atlanta native and Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard as an unrestricted free agent, still likely want to acquire a big post player so Al Horford can move to power forward.

Atlanta also had the 18th overall pick in the draft.
