‘Make a Difference’: Volunteers Build Ramp for Macon Family

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – About a dozen volunteers from Sears in Macon spent the day in the Bellevue community giving back to some very loyal customers—one hammer at a time.

The “Make a Difference” tour, a partnership between the Sears Hometown Store and the non-profit Rebuilding Together, stopped in Macon to build a handicap ramp for the Clark family.

“I love them,” said Willie James Clark as he watched the workers from afar, “God bless them.”

When Willie’s not working, he’s spends his days on 1st Avenue taking care of his aging mother.

“She mostly just goes to the doctor,” he said, “other than that, we take care of her.”

The 79-year-old rarely leaves the house and when she does, she has to use a crutch. Her immobility makes it hard for her to get out and about. On Monday, several organizations came together to “make a difference” in the Clark’s life.

“We look for members of the community that need some help,” said Macon Sears store owner Kenny Johnson.

Johnson heard about the Clark’s from the Macon Meals on Wheels programs. Before long, the tour bus was stopping right outside of their house.

“We just want to give something back to the people that have been loyal to us,” Johnson said.

The Clark’s new ramp took a little over an hour to complete. All of the time and tools were donated by Craftsman including a new lawnmower. To find out where the “Make a Difference” tour will stop next, click here.
