BYRON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Medical Center of Peach County is ready to its doors to the public.

Officials invited the media to see the hospital’s new facilities on Wednesday.

Hospital staff worked throughout the morning adding the final touches.

The building is 15,000 square feet larger than the old Peach Regional Medical Center.

State-of-the-Art equipment fills the $27 million facility that’s ready to take in more patients.

Peach County has a growing community and after a 10 year process, Elbert McQueen, Vice President of Regional Development, says the hospital will meet the demands he thinks they’ll face.

“The whole facility is just a huge improvement, the old one was built 60 years ago and it served the community well, but this one we hope will even enhance what their capabilities are,” McQueen said.

“I think we’re going to have an environment that’s very conducive to patients and family’s comfort and our capabilities have increased incredibly,” he said.

The facility has 25 private rooms, a helipad for airlifting patients, a new CT Machine, new lab equipment, a gift shop, and a new operating room with space to expand.

Medical Center of Peach County CEO Nancy Peed says the building will provide everything patients need during their stay.

“The services we’ll offer, the physicians we’re attracting and they’ll be able to really come here and not have to go everywhere else, it’s more of a one stop shop for health care.”

McQueen says he’s unsure of what the future will hold, but is excited about the possibilities.

“The future agenda would include things like maybe a medical office building on campus, possibly some other outpatient ambulatory services and we’ve got the land to do that.”

The Medical Center of Peach County will open its doors to the public on June 13, 2013 at 9 a.m.

Patients will be moved to the hospital on July 16.
