Milledgeville Police: Officer Accused of Sexually Assaulting Inmate Arrested, Fired

Jeffery Bernard BrownMILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Milledgeville detention officer is fired after he was accused of sexually assaulting a female inmate.

According to a new release from the Milledgeville Police Department, officers receives a complaint from the inmate on Wednesday around 1:30 p.m. The release states the alleged assault happened on Tuesday between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m in the jail. Authorities immediately opened an investigation and turned it over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office jail records show Jeffery Bernard Brown was arrested and booked in jail on Wednesday. The GBI charged the officer with sexual assault.

MPD Chief Dray Swicord stated in the release “This type of behavior, whether alleged to be consensual or not, will not be tolerated. I stand by the decision of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to charge and arrest this detention officer.”

Swicord also said the department is committed to keeping jail detainees safe from harm while in custody and wants to reassure the community that this behavior will not go unpunished.

Brown has been terminated from MPD.

Jail records show he is still in the Baldwin County jail. Brown is scheduled to appear before a judge on Friday. 41NBC’s Amanda Castro will be there. Watch 41NBC News at 6 for the latest.
