Warner Robins Council Debates Due Process for City Department Heads

Warner Robins council members are considering a proposal that would offer more protection to department heads, like the Police Chief.

The ordinance allows department heads to have the same rights as city employees when it comes to discipline.

Right now, full-time employees can request a discipline review hearing. Department heads don’t have that option.

After the Police Chief was disciplined by the Mayor several times, some council members say it’s only fair for the Chief to have the option to have a situation reviewed by an outside board.

The Mayor argued if he has the power to appoint department heads, he should have the same power to discipline them.

No decision was made on the ordinance, Monday night.
