Macon Woman Arrested After Hitting Son with Car

CENTERVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Macon woman has been arrested after hitting her own child with a vehicle.

Arkebia Albury is in the Houston County Detention Center after hitting her son while trying to escape from shoplifting a Belk store.

Police were dispatched to the Belk at Galleria Mall around 6 p.m. on Thursday after employees called saying the Belk had been shoplifted.

41NBC spoke with Centerville Police Chief Sidney Andrews who said after Albury ran back to her vehicle with her two kids, Belk employees tried to stop her.

She put her youngest son in the car, and left her 4-year-old son outside. Afterwards, she put the car in reverse and hit the boy.

Belk employees called the ambulance, but Albury grabbed her son and put him in the car, speeding away.

Police quickly caught up with the car, arresting Albury and sent her son to the Medical Center of Central Georgia, where he was listed in critical condition.

Albury is charged by both the Georgia State Patrol and Centerville Police.

GSP charged Albury with Serious Injury by Motor Vehicle, 2 counts of child restraint violation, driving with a suspended license, and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.

Centerville Police charged her with 2nd degree cruelty to children, theft by shoplifting, and reckless conduct.
