City of Byron Included in Statewide Burn Ban

BYRON, Georgia (41 NBC/WMGT) – A ban on outdoor burning went into effect on May 1st in 54 Georgia counties, including Byron and the surrounding communities.

According to a news release sent out by the Byron Fire Department, the annual restriction is required by the state Environmental Protection Division to enhance air quality during the summer months when high ozone levels can negatively impact people’s health.

Chief JD Mosby, Fire Chief for the city of Byron says his department will enforce the ban.

Campfires and agricultural activities are exempt and citizens that have any questions are asked to contact the Byron Fire Department.
