Bibb County Commissioners Looking Over 2014 Budget Requests

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County commissioners got a first look at requests for the 2014 fiscal year budget on Friday.

Commissioners heard a summary from the finance department which outlined requests from each agency the county works with. Chairman Sam Hart says new requests this year total $19 million more than last year. The next step is to hold meetings with department heads to justify why the need the money and figure out what they can do without.

“What we will have to do is get with those departments and see what things must be done and what things can be postponed and taken care of in the new government,” Hart said.

Those meetings are scheduled to begin on May 20. The commissioners are setting budget for July 1st through December 31st of this year and the first six months of 2014.
