Bibb Animal Welfare Offers Low Adoption Fees This Weekend

dogsMACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – While you celebrate Mother’s day this weekend, the Macon-Bibb County Animal Welfare shelter hopes you’ll consider adding to your family. Bibb County is sponsoring its first ever adoption event and is picking up a large portion of the fees.

“It’s a plea, it’s a plea for help on behalf of the animals here a the shelter,” Macon-Bibb County Animal Welfare director Sarah Tenon said.

A plea Tenon hopes you will hear.

“We got to get our numbers lowered and we can do that if we can get everyone to come out,” she said. “Macon please come out and help us and help these babies.”

The shelter is filled with lovable pups waiting for their forever home. That is why Bibb County is hosting an adoption event on Saturday called “Are You My Mommy?” in honor of Mother’s Day on Sunday.

“We have a lot of orphaned babies here that need their mommy, they need their family,” Tenon said.

Forty pooches are up for adoption. It normally costs $80 to adopt, but Bibb County is paying majority of the fee. On Saturday, you can take your new best friend home for only $25. Tenon hopes the discounted price will help families who may not have been able to adopt before.

“We know with this economy some people can give good homes but they just don’t have the money,” she said. “Bibb County recognized that. We want to help, we want to encourage you to come out and support.”

And save a four-legged friends life.

Most of the animals up for adoption are spayed or neutered and are up to date on their shots. If you want to adopt a animal that is not fixed, you must also pay a $50 refundable spay or neuter deposit.

The adoption event is on Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pet Supermarket located 265 Tom Hill Sr. Blvd. In Macon.
