Hollywood Comes to Macon…..Again!

MACON, Georgia (41 NBC/WMGT) – If you look outside of your window, you might see a celebrity or two walking down the street. It’s because Macon is becoming a new hub to film blockbusters for the big screen. 41 NBC got down to the bottom of what it is that’s making Tinsel Town fall in love with Macon.

Some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters have been filmed in Macon.

“We’re selling our city, we’re trying to make Macon look as attractive to these people as humanly possible.”

Terrell Sandefur is one of Macon’s Film Commissioners, he and the Macon Film Commission attract location scouts in Hollywood to the streets of Macon.

Beginning April 24, a new movie will begin filming in Macon, “Need for Speed”, a popular video game franchise turned into a live action movie.

41 NBC asked Sandefur what keeps Tinsel town coming back.

“Georgia has a great tax incentive” Sandefur said. “We as the film commission promote the city of Macon to film makers and try to coax them to come to our town and to do their film productions.

And Hollywood doesn’t just get what they want, the city benefits as well.

“This movie for instance, their bringing 200 people with them, cast and crew members that are all staying at hotels, eating dinner at restaurants,” Sandefur said. “Their gonna pump a lot of money into the city of Macon in a very short amount of time”

Starting tomorrow at 6 AM, the off ramp onto Hardeman Avenue will be closed due to filming and different roads will be closed through out the week.
