Macon Arts Alliance Partners with Mercer’s Center for Collaborative Journalism

MACON, Georgia (41 NBC/WMGT) – The Macon Arts Alliance has received a big grant to support an arts journalism partnership with Mercer’s Center for Collaborative Journalism.

The program is called “Art Matters,” and the grant is $40,000. Students involved will create news articles, blogs, video reports and more.

41 NBC spoke with Director of Communications for the Macon Arts Alliance, Jonathan Dye,
who stressed the importance of this program.

“Our mission is to foster and cultivate the arts in central Georia and if people don’t know that the arts are happening, they can’t support the artists and the arts organizations in the area,” Dye said. “So this is the way to let people know the rich cultural heritage that we have and the contemporary happenings that are going on know that make this a great way to live work and play.”

The program will provide funding for a resident Art Critic at the school, and a series of events that will pair different artists and critics to discuss the state of art today.
