Bibb School Board Gets Training, 29 Have Applied for Interim Superintendent Position

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Members of the Bibb County School Board are ironing out some of the issues they feel are holding them back the most.

Thursday night, a representative from the Georgia School Boards Association led a workshop with the school board.  He had each of the board members write down what they thought the board should work on the most.

Most wanted some type of communication protocol to prevent some of the confusion that’s happened in the past.  They wanted a clear definition of who they can communicate with, how they can communicate, etc.

Several also wanted their roles as board members to be more clearly defined to let them and their constituents know exactly what their jobs are.

Board member Dr. Thelma Dillard has been looking for more direction since she took office in January.  She says she’s ready for the future after Thursday’s session.

“I’m looking forward to working with this body and this team so that we can put everything in place that we will need to put in place to have a great school system,” says Dillard.

The school board agreed to place its focus on its primary areas of concern moving forward.  It must come together to make some tough decisions over the next few weeks regarding its $18 million budget deficit.

Interim Superintendent Update

Also Thursday night, interim board president Susan Sipe announced 29 people applied for the interim superintendent position.  Board members will discuss those applications at their meeting next Thursday.
