Mercer Student Suffers Five Heart Attacks By Age 21, Help Raise Awareness

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Heart attacks aren’t supposed to affect people before their 21st birthday, especially when you like to workout and exercise. Tell that to Mercer student Andrew Werkheiser.

He’s already been through five of them.

Werkheiser has what’s known as Myocarditis, which is a virus that attacks his heart and causes heart attacks. No one really knows how or why it happens, which is why Werkheiser wants your help to raise awareness.

He sat down with us Thursday morning to talk about his condition and how you can help support him this weekend in downtown Macon.
