Two Men Arrested in Connection with Metal Thefts in Bibb County

SandersBrooksMACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Two men have been arrested in connection to copper thefts at several Macon and Bibb County recreational parks, according to a news release sent out by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Stephen Andrew Sanders, 38 of Lizella, and Wendell Lee Brooks, 28 of Jones County, were arrested on April 2nd and charged with several counts of Criminal Damage, Theft by Taking, and Interference of Government Property.

The Bibb’s Sheriff Office and Macon Police worked in conjunction to investigate several metal theft incidents that occurred at the East and North Macon Recreational Centers, along with the West Macon Ball Park. The installations were stripped of thousands of feet of copper wiring which power the lights and scoreboards.

The Jones County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the investigation.

As well as the charges stated above, Sanders was charged with a Probation Violation and has yet to have a bond set.

Brooks was released with a bond of $11,050, with additional charges pending.
