Warner Robins High Schoolers Raise Awareness Of Drunk Driving For Prom Season
WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – It’s prom season in middle Georgia, and some Warner Robins High School students have a message for all students; Don’t Drink and Drive.
From the start, it’s easy to see where the Youtube video is going. It’s no secret, the message is clear.
“Watching it gives me the chills,” Freshman Callie Bruce said about the video.
Callie is one of the actors in the minute-and-a-half PSA. In it, she is seen getting ready for the big night. She is putting on her makeup, telling her dad she promises to be careful. But then the video shifts gears. Callie has some girlfriends over and the drinks come out. The foursome party in her parent’s kitchen, then get into the car to head out for the dance.
And we all know what happens next.
Of the four girls in the car, Callie is the victim who dies when they get into an accident. From there, the scene cuts to her funeral where Callie is surrounded by family and friends while she lays in a casket. It’s a scene Callie’s best friend Jordan, can’t get out of her mind.
“She’s a really good friend of mine, and it was just really scary to think that, that actually does happen. And it’s just…scary,” Jordan said with a shutter.
Even though it was acting to make a point for other students, the girls said this storyline was one that took a serious emotional toll on them.
“It was heart breaking to see Callie in the casket and for all my friends sitting around me crying, because we were pretending like she was dead,” Jordan said. “I would hope that other kids would realize drinking and driving is not a good thing and that death can come from it.”
And when it comes to peer pressure from fellow students, the girls haven’t given second thought to what the other kids might think about them.
“It hasn’t bothered me,” Callie said. “I don’t think anybody is going to look at us any differently. We’re trying to educate them and other people.”
Jordan agreed. “And if they do, that’s their problem.”
So take it from the girls who fortunately only had to act a scene like this out; don’t drink and drive this high school prom season.
And as the video fades out of the funeral to a black page, a message comes across the screne that is clear for everyone watching;
“Life Is Precious. Don’t Drink and Drive.”
