Macon Man Gives Back by Hosting Free Football Camp For Kids Ages 5-13
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Seventeen years ago, a Macon man was part of a program called Adopt a Role Model.
Now, he’s using that experience to give back to kids in the community.
Today, Alvoid Gates is a coach with the Middle Georgia Youth Community League.
This week is Spring Break for Bibb County students, so he’s hosting a free football camp for kids ages 5 to 13, who might not be able to play otherwise.
He credits Tina Dennard, the founder of the adopt a role model program, for setting him up with a role model that helped shape him into the man he is today.
“I grew up the same way,” says Gates. “So I understand it, and anything I can do to help kids stay out of trouble–especially when they’re out of school–I can do it. I love to do it.”
If you’re interested in taking your kids to the camp, Gates invites you to come out to Lynmore Estates Park Friday and Saturday.
The camp starts at 4:30 each day and runs until 7.
