Black Girls Run! Helps Middle Georgia Women Get Fit

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A group of women across Middle Georgia are apart of a nationwide movement to battle obesity.

The group is called Black Girls Run! The organization started as a blog in 2009 and has spread across the U.S. There are now sixty chapters including one in Warner Robins.

“Since I’ve been with the group I’ve lost 40 pounds,” said Lashairl Thomas.

Thomas meets with a group of about 30 women daily to run. As a team, the women warm up race and meet up at the finish line, forming a ‘cheer tunnel’ to encourage fellow runners.

“I always tell people, we leave no woman behind,” said Deshala Dixon, the local chapter ambassador.

“I was very encouraged,” Thomas said, “they were very helpful pushing me along.”

The women train year round for several different races. Dixon said the next big events include a race in Myrtle Beach and Savannah.
