Cherry Blossom Festival Goers Celebrate Founders Day

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The pinkest party on Earth celebrated its beginnings Friday morning at Founders Day.

A huge crowd filled the Macon terminal station to remember how the Cherry Blossom Festival started. The late William Fickling Senior shared his love of the Yoshino cherry tree with festival founder Carolyn Crayton. Now 31 years later, we still celebrate those beautiful trees with this amazing festival.

Crayton says she loves working the festival every year and is grateful for community’s help and support.

“It’s been a great joy to have the opportunity to work on a festival and to have so many wonderful thousands of volunteers who helped me,” Crayton said. “The thing that makes me happy is to see the people enjoying it.”

The festival always coincides with the Fickling’s birthday. To celebrate Founders Day, festival goers enjoyed free ice cream, pink donuts, and cupcakes.
