MPD: Woman Arrested for Beating Grandmother with Baseball Bat

McgheeKristine Michelle 201300009029 03212013MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Milledgeville woman is behind bars after police say she beat her grandmother with a baseball bat.

The incident centers around a family argument over who owns a piece of property. That argument came to blows Wednesday morning when Milledgeville police say the suspect picked up a baseball bat and started hitting her granmother.

MPD spent all day Wednesday searching for 30-year-old Kristine McGhee. Cops say she was getting ready to skip town when her neighbors, who did not want to be identified, spotted her and called 911.

“We came home around midnight, right at midnight, and we we’re going up the road here when we saw a car in her driveway and as we got closer we realized it was hers,” one neighbor told 41NBC.

Earlier that day, police say McGhee was arguing with her mother and grandmother over a piece of property. Then a short time later, she showed up at the family owned business Video Bazaar to continue the argument.

“I think she was unstable to begin with so when a person is like that, I guess they do things you wouldn’t expect someone to do,” the neighbor said.

Police tells 41NBC she grabbed a baseball bat and started hitting her grandma. MPD says she hit her in the face, head, arms, and torso. She then stole some cash and took off. Officers found the victim behind the counter sitting in a puddle of blood.

“It’s definitely really sad. It doesn’t really surprise me just having the feeling that she was an unstable person,” a second neighbor told 41NBC.

McGhee’s mother told MPD her daughter had a mental issue and she was getting a restraining order against her to keep away from the business. Her neighbors say she lived alone and acted paranoid.

“The few interactions we’ve had with her, she’s just been very standoffish,” the neighbor said. “She always seemed like she was afraid of something. I wish she could have gotten help before something like this happened.”

McGhee is charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, and aggravated battery. Currently, her grandmother is in critical condition at the Medical Center of Central Georgia. MPD says McGhee’s charges could change pending her grandmother’s condition.
