Protestor Disrupts Cherry Blossom Festival Opening Ceremony
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Macon activist delayed Mayor Robert Reichert’s speech today at the opening of the Cherry Blossom Festival.
Anthony Harris, who’s been very outspoken through the entire Sammie Davis, Junior death case, showed up in his pink jacket with a sign, yelling for the mayor to talk to him throughout the ceremony at Central City Park.
The mayor stopped several times to tell Harris he’d speak with him later, but police eventually escorted Harris away.
The Bibb County Jail website shows Harris was arrested at 12:30 this afternoon. He’s charged with disrupting lawful meetings and gatherings.
In December 2012, Davis was killed in an altercation with a Macon Police officer. The officer was cleared of wrong-doing after the GBI reviewed the case, and the Bibb County district attorney announced this week that the officer would not face criminal charges for Davis’ death.
