Macon District Attorney Reviewing GBI File in Officer Shooting Case

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – New developments tonight in a case that’s rocked the city of Macon.  The District Attorney for the Macon Judicial Circuit, David Cooke, is now reviewing the results of the GBI’s investigation into the shooting death of Sammie Davis Jr. You’ll remember Davis was shot and killed by Macon Police Officer Clayton Sutton in December 2012.

Cooke held a news conference today, announcing he and other investigators will take their time ito review the evidence to understand what happened that day at the Kroger on Pio Nono Avenue.

Cooke said, “this is a large file, it contains hours of video and recorded interviews, as well as hundreds of pages of documentary evidence. We’ve already begun our review of this file, and we will do so as quickly as possible without sacrificing the quality or the accuracy of our own review.”

41NBC also asked Cooke if he could shed any more light on why Macon Police Chief Mike Burns called on federal investigators to assist.  Cooke said he wouldn’t comment, but he added that he has been in discussions with the U.S. Attorney’s office for weeks about this case.
