Bibb County School Board Announces Acting Superintendent

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Amid controversy surrounding former Bibb County Schools Superintendent Dr. Romain Dallemand, the school board has announced an acting superintendent.

Board member Lester Miller says Suzanne Griffin-Ziebart will serve as acting superintendent of the district for the next 30 days or until the board chooses an interim superintendent. Griffin-Ziebart is currently the Deputy Superintendent of School Improvement and Redesign for the district.

The decision comes after a long session Thursday night. Miller says the announcement was voted 8-0 by the board.

41NBC spoke with Griffin-Ziebart on Friday.  She says right now, her focus is on keeping the school district in order, and her title of acting superintendent is much different than serving as the interim.

“I’m really here to keep the district going,” says Griffin-Ziebart.  “To sort of put some things in place to be sure that we’re positioned well to begin our school year next year–to deal with things like staffing, to prep for that kind of thing.  So that’s really my role right now is just to continue to serve, keep things running smoothly on a day-to-day basis.”

No word yet on when a permanent replacement will be named.
