Community Leaders Discuss Crime Prevention Center in Pleasant Hill
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Several local leaders are meeting at the front lines to fight crime in the Pleasant Hill community.
Members with the Shalom Zone, Pleasant Hill Improvement and Macon police precinct three officers came together Saturday to voice their opinion on violence in the area.
Since 2009, the group has been meeting at the Dan High Crime Prevention Center at the corner of Third Avenue. The building currently serves as a meeting space for the community, but area leaders want to turn it into a educational hub for the entire area. Now, they are ready to put their agendas into action.
“We have to look at what we can do as a community to curb the crime rate,” said Dan High, the crime prevention center co-founder, “we have to save our babies and give them a more positive outlook on life, that’s our number one goal.”
In the past, plans to open the center have been stifled due to lack of funding. But with the support of local community groups, High expects the building to be refurbished as early as this July. Once the construction is complete, the center will be open to the public. It will include a computer lab, meeting spaces and classes for the entire community.
