Fans Meet and Greet Sports Legends at Georgia Sports Hall of Fame

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Armed with plenty of sports gear, fans like Kent Jordan, filled the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame to meet face-to-face with some of their favorite sports legends.

“You get to find out that they’re just regular people like we are,” Jordan said, “but you get to ask them what the game was like when they were playing and what it’s like now and the differences.”

Jimmy Orr described his path to the hall of fame, as a long one. The former wide receiver played for the Pittsburg Steelers for 13 years and went to the Super Bowl twice. For Orr, some of the rules and regulations have changed, but the game and the fans are still the same.

“I still love the game,” Orr said, “if I had to do it all again, I would. It’s nice to be here and be recognized for all you’ve done.”

For Reggie Wilkes, former linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Atlanta Falcons, he felt like both a fan and a Georgia Sports Hall of Fame inductee.

“I just can’t believe I’m sitting next to ‘the Jimmy Orr,'” Wilkes said, “just to be inducted amongst legends like that, it’s an honor.”

For Buck Belue, former University of Georgia football star and Georgia Sports Hall of Fame inductee, returning to Macon is one of the biggest honors.

“I was born here and my dad went to high school here,” Belue said, “so this is very special for us, the whole family.”

Buck Belue, Skip Caray, J.B. Hawkins, Heather Stepp McCormick and Reggie Wilkes will all be inducted in the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.
