Mount de Sales Students Dance To End Abuse Against Women

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Women and men across the world stood up and danced today to raise awareness against rape and abuse. That included a group of high school students from Mount de Sales Academy in Macon.

As part of a worldwide effort called One Billion Rising, women and men are taking a stand against abuse, and standing up for one another. They’re singing and dancing to show they will no longer tolerate violence against women, especially when it comes to rape.

According to One Billion Rising, one in three women in the world will be raped or abused in their lifetime. It’s a startling number that One Billion Rising hopes to see diminished.

“We’re basically saying, we’ve had enough as women. We’re standing up for not only ourselves, but other women around the world and whatever they’re going through,” Anderson explains. “A lot of times abuse can be very much in the dark and behind closed doors, and people don’t want to talk about it.”
