Hundreds Flock to Comic Con in Warner Robins

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — From Wonder Woman to Thor, to middle Georgia’s own Ghost-busters, Comic Con in Warner Robins comic con brought out about 400 card players, characters, and of course comic-book fanatics.

“We got a lot of different people with a lot of different interests that all come together,” said Mike McDaniel, co-sponsor of the Atlanta South Comic Con.

McDaniel, who owns the shop Heroes and Villains in Warner Robins, says he was approached to co-sponsor the event by a “con” creator out of Atlanta about 6 weeks ago, and he couldn’t resist the offer.

“I just jumped at the idea of helping him. I think it’s good to spread the word about comics anyway I can,” says McDaniel.

These events aren’t just about sharing the classics. Warner Robins resident Nick Bryan says from movies to games fantasy worlds have a big fan-base.

“Comic movies are hot right now, ya know, Anime are things teens are into, you know, everyone playing Magic the Gathering, or Pokemon,” says Bryan

Some spent the day duking it out over cards, while other, like William Edwards, got into character.

“I’ve been to a few comic cons but honestly I’ve never dressed up before. Since it’s a local event and a lot of local comic shops are coming out, I figured I would show my support,” said Edwards who dressed up as Thor.

McDaniel says the last time a comic con came to middle Georgia was in the 80s, and he’s hoping this event will become an annual one.
