Civil Rights Advocate Andrew Young Speaks at FVSU
FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Former U.S. Ambassador and civil rights advocate Andrew Young was in Middle Georgia Monday, raising money for students and challenging representatives to work together.
Young was the keynote speaker at Fort Valley State University’s 26th annual Black History Month Scholarship Luncheon. The former congressman challenged legislators to work for the benefit of the community and give back when the opportunity presents itself.
“What we’re supposed to do is pass on our blessing and this gives me an opportunity to share some of the 60 years experience I’ve had,” Young said.
The luncheon raised nearly $200,000 for student scholarships. Senator Cecil Staton and congressman Sanford Bishop were also at Monday’s event.
