Funeral Arrangements Set for Dublin Couple Killed in Interstate Wreck, Community Mourns

DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Funeral arrangements have been finalized for the Dublin couple killed in a fiery car pileup on Interstate 16.

Clayton and Josephine Warnock died in the crash on Wednesday.

Visitation will be held Monday from 5 p.m.-8 p.m at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m Tuesday at Jefferson Street Baptist Church.

Over the weekend, crews with the Georgia Department of Transportation finished repairs at the accident scene. Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the crash.

Neighbors say the couple was heading to a doctor’s appointment in Atlanta the day of the accident. Richard Brown has lived next door to the couple for more than a decade and said the entire community is grieving.

“They were good Christian people,” Brown said, “he would come and he would do anything for you and it was just a tragedy when they died. It hurt the whole neighborhood.”

At Dublin Church of God, the congregation honored the Warnocks by wrapping green ribbon around their usual chairs. Dublin Church of God Bishop Steve Hardeman is one of the many pastors ministering the couple’s funeral.

“They’ve impacted everybody here,” Hardeman said, “they just touched people. They loved Christ with all their heart and not just talked about, but lived it out.”

On Saturday, the Warnocks’ daughter Catherine Baggett released this statement abut her parents saying in part:

“At this time, our families do not care to speculate on the events of this accident, but we are focusing all our attention on laying our parents to rest and honoring not how they, died, but how they lived. Even though this accident was sudden and unexpected, our parents were ready to meet our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!”
