Macon Public Safety Committee Meeting Postponed, Was to Include Update on Davis Shooting
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon’s Public Safety Committee meeting, originally scheduled for Monday at 4:00 p.m., has been postponed until Thursday.
Monday meeting’s agenda included an update on the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s look into the December shooting of Sammie Davis, Jr. at the Pio Nono Kroger.
Keith Moffett with Mayor Robert Reichert’s office told the committee in a meeting late last month that the GBI expected to wrap up its investigation by “mid-February.”
Committee chairman Virgil Watkins, Jr. tells us he assumed it to be mid-February now and that’s why the item was on Monday’s agenda.
However, he says, the GBI says the investigation is not yet complete.
Watkins rescheduled the meeting, which also is supposed to include an update about equipping Macon Police officers with tasers, for Thursday afternoon at 3.
Rodney Wall with the GBI office in Perry tells us they’re in the final stages of the investigation and are waiting for lab results.
When those are in, they’ll hand the case back over to Bibb County District Attorney David Cooke.
