Bibb Crime Rate Down for 2012

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office announced crime has decreased for 2012.

According to a news release, crime went down by almost 10%. There were a total of 2,478 uniform crime rate crimes reported to the sheriff’s office in 2011 compared with 2,489 in 2012.

The largest decrease was shown in commercial burglaries. Major crimes like auto theft, home burglary, entering autos, and theft only were down across the board.

Commercial robberies were up in 2012. The UCR crimes reported 30 robberies in 2012 compared to 19 in 2011. The sheriff’s office says X-Mart had a total of eight robberies which played a large part in the increase of the commercial robbery crime stats for 2012. Since the arrests were made, there have been no further robberies at the X-Mart.

Sheriff David Davis says the clearance rate of the personal and property crimes by the sheriff’s office are above the national average. The sheriff’s office cleared 64% of the crimes against persons while the national average cleared is 48%. The sheriff’s office cleared 34% of the property crimes and the national average is 15%.

Sheriff Davis credits this success to the hard working deputies and dedicated community involvement. He expects crime to continue to decrease as we move towards consolidation.

“I know we’re going to move into the future with a good team and as we move into consolidation with the Macon Police Department,” Davis said. “They have some good people working for them, they have good investigators, they have good patrol officers, and for the most part they serve the public very well and we look forward to working on that merger as it goes on.”
