Witness Says Innocent Bystander Shot While Driving by Armed Robbery

aptsMACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – An alleged armed robbery took place early Friday morning, culminating with an innocent bystander being shot while driving by the scene.

It happened at Riviera Court Apartments at 3013 Ridge Avenue.

A witness who lives across the street but declined to give her name or go on camera says she heard five gunshots go off between 4:30 and 5 a.m.

She says someone broke into an apartment in Building C and took off on foot.  The apartment’s occupant chased after the assailant, firing a gun.  One of the stray bullets hit an innocent bystander who happened to be driving by the complex.  That lady was taken to the hospital.

She says the robbery victim then returned to and barricaded himself inside his apartment and wouldn’t cooperate with police, who were waiting to get a search warrant to try to find the weapon.

Eventually, the witness says, he was tased by officers and taken into custody.

She says all police activity around the area was done by 8 a.m.

We’ve reached out to the Macon Police Department for further details, but we have yet to hear back.
