Macon Golf Course Set for Much Needed Repairs

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon’s Bowden Golf Course will soon get some much needed repairs.

City Council Tuesday night approved irrigation system upgrades and pump replacement on the course.

The total cost of the two projects is around $121,000, which will come from 2011 SPLOST funds.

Bowden Golf Course opened to the public in 1940, making it the second oldest course in town.

Councilman Tom Ellington says it was past time for upgrades and that he feels it’s a good investment for the city.

“In terms of the type of irrigation repairs that we’re looking at right now, it’s been a number of years,” says Ellington.  “There’s been some patching, but basically, the equipment we’re talking about replacing out there is well past the end of a reasonable, useful life.”

No word yet on when the projects will begin or if the course will close during that time.

Tasers for Macon Police Department?

Also at Tuesday night’s meeting, a resolution to equip Macon police officers with tasers was referred to the Appropriations Committee.

Some council members say incidents like December’s shooting death of Sammie Davis, Jr. could have been prevented if officers would have had tasers.
