Public Properties Approves Leasing Terminal Station to Macon Transit Authority, with One Exception
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon’s Public Properties Committee approves leasing the Historic Terminal Station to Macon Transit Authority for 15 years, but it removes one important clause.
The committee voted 3-2 to remove a clause that would have allowed the transit authority to purchase the building after the term.
When the item came up for discussion, councilman Lonnie Miley motioned to remove the purchasing part of the resolution, which was backed by councilmembers Frank Thompkins and Elaine Lucas.
Committee chairman Rick Hutto and councilmember Ed DeFore were against removing the purchase option.
Hutto says now, it’s up to the Federal Transit Authority to decide if it will accept the committee’s amendment.
“At this point, it would be up to the transit authority to accept this 15-year deal that does not have that automatic handover at the end of that term,” says Hutto.
Hutto says the FTA might not accept the committee’s amended resolution.
He says he expects to hear from the authority before Tuesday night’s full council meeting.
