Sen. Staton Files Non-Partisan Election Bills on First Day Back in Gold Dome

ATLANTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — As promised, State Senator Cecil staton filed, not one,
but nine bills on the first day back in Atlanta to end partisan elections in Macon and Bibb county.

Staton says the bills will be in committee for about a week before they are voted on.

“It removes another another divisive thing in our community. I mean look, other cities in middle Georgia have moved to non-partisan elections, why is Macon any different? Why is Macon special in that it should have partisan elections up and down the line? I don’t think it is,” says Staton.

Staton’s effort is supported by state representative allan peake. Both say the idea came from speaking with constituents in their district who want non-partisan elections. Staton says the request was also heard during town hall consolidation meetings.
