Last Day for Macon-Bibb County Heating Assistance Program

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon-Bibb County Economic Opportunity Council wrapped up its last heating assistance program.

Residents stopped by the Saint Paul AME Church on Tuesday and Wednesday to be one of the last participants of the Low Income Energy Assistance Program. The Department of Human Services through the EOC provided heating assistance for low-income Bibb County residents.

The program started back in November. The EOC has served about 4,000 households. The EOC tells 41 NBC it usually gets one million dollars from the federal government to serve 5,200 households. Each household can get $310 or $350 dollars to go towards their heating bill.

Applicants must provide a copy of their most recent energy bill, proof of household income, a driver’s license, and social security card for all household members.

The EOC says unless it gets more federal funding, Wednesday was the last day to get heating assistance.
