Baldwin County Deputies Arrest Holiday Robber
MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Baldwin County deputies arrested a man suspected of breaking into ten homes over the holidays and they caught him using a serial number.
Deputies arrested 43-year-old George Stewart on Friday in connection with at least two of those burglaries. Captain Brad King tells 41 NBC the sheriff’s office started getting calls about several break ins on Merry Drive dating as far back as November 1st. Most of the calls came in on December 30th.
Ten homes were broken into, but majority of them were not burglarized. Seven flat screen TVs, a CD player, and a Blu Ray DVD player were stolen.
Deputies didn’t get a break in the case until Stewart pawned two flat screen TVs at a Macon pawnshop on December 21st. One of the TV’s was entered into the statewide police database and deputies linked Stewart to the theft.
“The owner had the serial number,” King said. “When it was stolen, we were able to add the TV into the GCIC. Anything that goes into the pawn system is checked by GCIC, so that’s how we had our first lead into identifying who we thought our offender was.”
Deputies are still investigating the case, but believe Stewart is connected with the other burglaries and break-ins.
King says now that Stewart is behind bars, he thinks they’re going to solve several thefts in Baldwin, Jones, Putnam, Monroe, and possibly Bibb counties. Stewart has a long criminal history dating back to 1989 with dozens of charges and convictions.
Stewart is charged with two counts burglary and could face additional charges. He’s currently booked in the Baldwin County jail with no bond.
Deputies also arrested Stewart’s step-son, Jamie Medlin, on unrelated charges. No word yet if he’s connected with the robberies.
