Nursing Homes Kick Off “Share a Moment of Love This Holiday” Campaign

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Even though Christmas is over, it’s never too late to spread holiday cheer. Georgia’s nursing home leaders are kicking of a state wide campaign to share a moment of love with the elderly.

“Eerybody loves company,” nursing home resident Mary McNeal said.

McNeal lives at the Peachbelt Health and Rehabilitation Center in Warner Robins. She says visitors make her day.

“I love people. I’m a people person and I love for everybody to come and see me and a lot of them come,” she said.

That’s why the Georgia Health Care Association is launching a new campaign called “Share a Moment of Love This Holiday.” The idea is to drop the electronics and visit a loved one or an older friend in a nursing home.

“This is a time of the year of love and caring. It is a wonderful way to share that and give of yourself,” Becky Hunt, the owner of Pechbelt Health and Rehabilitation Center, said.

There are hundreds of nursing home facilities across the Peach State. The hope is you will take some time to stop by and visit. Hunt says you can play Bingo or join in on the morning exercises. Whatever you decide to do, you’ll brighten their day.

“It’s an opportunity to affect the lives of people who have been affecting lives for so many years and a time to give back and share with them,” Hunt said.

41 NBC’s Amanda Castro played a couple rounds of Bingo. Even though she didn’t win the game, she did win new friendships.

“We really believe our communities will be enriched and that their lives will be enriched by it., Hunt said.

It doesn’t take much to visit your local nursing homes. Just stop by and introduce yourself to the administrator or activities director and they’ll be able to set you up with a new friend.
