Davis Shooting Death Case Turned Over to DA’s Office

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon Mayor Robert Reichert is weighing in on the shooting death of a man by a Macon police officer just over a week ago. The death of Sammie Davis, Jr. has sparked a community outcry for justice, some saying Officer Clayton Sutton was not within his rights to shoot Davis.

The Mayor met with Davis’s family Monday and assured them that a full investigation is being done as to why Officer Sutton killed him.

He says the district attorney is reviewing the case, as well as toxicology and forensic reports.

Mayor Reichert released a statement today, saying, “I’m confident that the Macon Police Department has done an appropriate investigation in order to gather the necessary information and ensure that an accurate picture of what happened is presented.”

The mayor says he expects to hear from the DA’s office within the next few days.
