Milledgeville Youth Summit Targets Bullying
MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – “Be a buddy, not a bully” was the central message of a youth summit held at Georgia College’s Early College.
“It is a national issue,” said Principal Dr. Runee Sallad. “Our parents committee and I thought this would be a great method to target the social issue.”
As part of the school’s first-ever youth summit, the program addressed problems associated with bullying and discussed possible consequences, state laws, and various forms of bullying.
The session focused on the bystanders– people who are aware of bullying or harassment, but do not want to get involved.
Alexis Hill, one of the students, says “there have been people that have said, ‘go to someone that you think is going help you.’ You’re supposed to do that…They’re going to go and tell someone with an authority.”
“By informing them of the how to spot bullying and the consequences, we hope students will feel obligated to report issues they see,” said Sallad.
