Macon Police Host Shop with a Cop Event
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Monday evening, several Middle Georgia kids got the chance to shop ’til they dropped, with the help of a local police officer.
Macon Police officers team up with a child or family that might have a tough time this holiday season. The goal is simple: make their Christmas dreams come true.
Officers with Macon Police enjoy the opportunity to give back to children during the holiday season. Phil Sullivan with Macon Police told us, “I’m fortunate to be in a situation, so I can put a smile on {a child’s} face during this time. This is the season to be jolly and that’s what we want to do. We want to make every child a happy child during this great season.
Another MPD officer, Danny Thigpen said, “most of these kids out here tonight, it it wasn’t for the Fraternal Order of Police, they wouldn’t get a Christmas.” He says– what we try to do is go to the community, and by word of mouth, and through churches and associations, we all take these kids that need a Christmas.
The annual “Shop with a Cop” event was held at the Wal-mart on Harrison Road in Macon. Thigpen says the Fraternal Order of Police has been hosting “Shop with a Cop” events for at least 25 years.
